WHAT CAN WE TAKEAWAY?
As Americans, we live in a nation that is a "government for the people by the people". However, we have certain policies that make it easier for some and much harder for others when in reality our nation preaches a message of equal access to prosperity. In order for the dream to be attainable for all, access to things such as education, wealth, and income for upward mobillity are necessary.
We are also constantly flashed advertisements through television, music, movies, etc. that tell us we have to buy buy buy in order to be happy becuase if we don't, then we will not fit in to the mold that everyone else is in.
WHY IS THE DREAM AN ILLUSION?
AFTER COMPLETING MY INTERVIEWS AND REFLECTING UPON THE MATERIALS, I HAD COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE AMERICAN DREAM WHAT IT USED TO BE RATHER THAN A MERE ILLUSION, WAS INVESTING MORE TO OUR PEOPLE. WE NEED TO CREATE POLICIES THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT EVERYONE BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME ACCESS TO THE THINGS THAT WILL HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS. WE ALSO NEED TO BECOME BETTER CONSUMERS AND PRODUCERS OF MEDIA. UNDERSTANDING MESSAGES IN MEDIA AND CHANGING THE CONSUMERIST MINDSET CAN HOPEFULLY BRING BACK THE TRUE MEANING OF THE AMERICAN DREAM.
