HOW MEDIA HAS CHANGED THE AMERICAN DREAM

WE CONSUME MEDIA ALL DAY, EVERYDAY. WE ARE CONSTANTLY FLASHED IMAGES OF THE NEXT NEW THING TO BUY OR WHAT WE NEED TO BUY IN ORDER TO FIT IN.
DISCUSSIONS
How does media portray the American Dream?
"When I think of the American Dream with media, I think of things like the Kardashians and other wealthy famous families who built their "empire" through media and now whatever they do or what business they start, will be successful because of their last name. Media portrays a "perfect dream life" especially on social media"
Interview with Kate H.
"Nowadays with social media and the television industry, it seems that we have made the American Dream more about having money and things and that they will bring you happiness... it has become more materialistic"
Interview with Dan W.

THOUGHTS
With so many forms of media constantly surounding us, we are given messages that we need to buy all these things becuase if we don't then we won't fit in and as human beings, we need to have a sense of belonging to survive, thus we buy things to fulfill that need.
Additionally, when we scroll through social media, we constantly see photos of others and we then belive that we have to do the things they do, wear what others wear, and essentially it will "bring us happiness". When in reality, media has turned the American Dream of prosperity and success into a story centered more around materialism and consumerism.
